TRIO is a set of federally-funded college opportunity programs that motivate and support students in their pursuit of a college degree. TRIO programs provide academic tutoring, personal counseling, mentoring, financial guidance, and other supports necessary for educational access and retention.
At TRIO, we’re dedicated to helping first-generation and low-income students overcome barriers to higher education. Our programs provide personalized support, from financial guidance to academic skill-building, to ensure each student is prepared, confident, and equipped for success for college and beyond. With resources tailored to ease the transition into college life, TRIO empowers students to set and achieve meaningful academic and career goals, ultimately leading to graduation and active, responsible citizenship.
Northwest’s TRIO programs offer services as early as ninth grade to help prospective college students to reach their fullest potential. Our team supports students at every stage of their educational journey through three specialized programs: Upward Bound, Upward Bound Math & Science, and Student Support Services. With these resources, TRIO enables students to navigate college life successfully and turn their dreams into reality.
Programming to prepare first-generation and/or low-income high school students for postsecondary education enrollment and success.
Upward Bound Math-Science (UBMS) is designed to strengthen the math and science skills of participating students. Through this program students recognize and develop their potential to excel in math and science as they are encouraged to pursue a collegiate degree in a STEM field.
Student Support Services assists first-generation, low-income, and students with disabilities throughout their time at Northwest Missouri State University.
