Jump Start Program

Ready to Start Your Journey at Northwest? 

Jump Start is a peer mentoring program created to assist first-year students in their transition to Northwest Missouri State University. Students with similar backgrounds, interests, and perspectives are paired with upper-class student mentors who help them thrive academically, socially, and personally as they navigate the college experience.

Jump Start mentees, or participants, will engage in a Pre-Advantage Week experience that fosters community within a small cohort of students and introduces them to university administrative staff and resources. Through this experience, students will discover opportunities for involvement, gain awareness of university resources, and receive guidance on wellness and academic success.

• Get Paired with a Mentor – Be paired with an upper-class student who can answer questions, share advice, and help you navigate college life.

• Start Northwest with Confidence – Gain practical tips for managing classes, getting involved, and balancing your well-being.
• Feel Like You Belong – Become part of a supportive network that encourages you to thrive both inside and outside the classroom.

Mentee Expectations

• Attend Pre-Advantage Week Activities 
• Maintain Regular Communication With Your Peer Mentor
• Participate in Academic and Personal Development Workshops (once a month, schedule subject to change)
• Engage in Social and Community-Building Activities 
• Complete Program Assessment and Evaluations
