Test-out Policy

Credit by examination through the School of Language, Literature and Writing is not available for any course in this catalog.

Advanced Standing Requirement

No English major may be enrolled in and pursue advanced English courses (numbered 300 and above) until the University and School of Language, Literature and Writing advanced standing conditions have been met. When these conditions have been met, a student may apply for advanced standing. To achieve English program advanced standing, a student must:

  1. Apply for advanced standing after completion of 45 semester hours credit, during the second semester of the sophomore year;
  2. Have completed the following courses with at least a 3.00 GPA:
    1. The sequence of freshman composition courses
    2. Eng 10-220 Introduction to Literature
    3. Any two of the required survey courses

Conditions

Any student with lower than a "B" in a writing course may overcome that deficiency by writing an acceptable supervised essay administered by the school. Transfer students must also write an acceptable supervised essay administered by the school.
