Scholarships for First-time Freshmen

To qualify for admission-based scholarships, you must apply by May 1. If you complete your admission application after May 1, you may still be awarded scholarships based on available funding, but it’s not guaranteed that funding will be available.

The criteria listed on this page apply to the initial award for first-time Northwest Missouri State University students. For renewal requirements, visit Scholarships for Current Students.

Please note: The downloadable PDFs are 508 compliant.

How scholarships work at Northwest

  1. Most scholarships are awarded automatically when you apply for admission
  2. Some scholarships are competitive or require additional steps
  3. You may qualify for more than one scholarship

Tip: Start With Admission-Based Freshman Scholarships below.

Northwest offers a wide variety of scholarships for first-time students. We’ve organized them by how you’re considered, from automatically awarded scholarships to opportunities that require additional steps.

Be sure to review all sections for scholarships you may qualify for based on your intended major, hometown or other criteria.

How to Read the Merit-Based Scholarship Chart

  1. Find your GPA row.
Look for your high school GPA range (like 3.95+, 3.85–3.94, 3.75–3.84, etc.) and note where you fall.
  2. Find your test score column.
Next, match your ACT or SAT range (for example, ACT 30–36 or SAT 1390–1600). If you only took one test, use that column.
  3. Find your award amount.
Locate your scholarship amount by navigating to the row with your GPA and the column with your test score. You’ll find your scholarship amount where these two elements intersect. In general, higher GPA and higher test scores correspond to higher award tiers.

Some tiers may have titles like Provost Scholar or Dean’s Scholar.
