Scholarships for Current Northwest Students

A majority of the foundation and major-based scholarships can be applied for by completing the Standard Scholarship Application in CatPAWS.

Automatic Renewal Scholarships

Students who initially received the President's Scholarship, Provost Scholar, Dean's Scholar, Distinguished Scholar, Academic Excellence, Tower Scholar, University Scholar, Northwest Merit, Multicultural Scholarship, Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship, Transfer Distinguished, Transfer Academic, Transfer Merit, Bearcat Advantage, Green and White Advantage, or Northwest A+ scholarship may renew the scholarship by meeting the renewal requirements listed in the scholarship description (see Disclaimers which may apply, including summer enrollment and maximum awards for each scholarship).

President's Scholarship (for students entering fall 2024 and later)

Requirements:

  • Renewable only to those who initially received the award as a freshman

Award Amount (fall/spring):

  • $10,000

Renewal Requirements:

  • 3.50 Northwest cumulative GPA and completion of 24 credit hours per academic year
  • If GPA is less than 3.50 see contract and Office of Scholarships and Financial Assistance for more details
  • Maximum award: within 4 consecutive academic years (awarded fall, spring, summer with full time enrollment)

The President's Scholarship and Continuing Freshman Scholarships are mutually exclusive; they do not "stack" and cannot be combined.

President's Scholarship (for students entering fall 2023 and earlier)

Requirements:

  • Renewable only to those who initially received the award as a freshman

Award Amount (fall/spring):

  • $8,000

Renewal Requirements:

  • 3.50 Northwest cumulative GPA and completion of 24 credit hours per academic year
  • If GPA is less than 3.50 see contract and Office of Scholarships and Financial Assistance for more details
  • Maximum award: within 4 consecutive academic years (awarded fall, spring, summer with full time enrollment)

Continuing Freshman Scholarships

Provost Scholar

Requirements:

  • Renewable to those who initially received the award as a freshman

Award Amount (fall/spring):

  • $6,000

Renewal Requirements:

  • 3.50 Northwest cumulative GPA and completion of 24 credit hours per academic year
  • Maximum award: within 4 consecutive academic years (awarded fall, spring, summer with full time enrollment)

Dean's Scholar

Requirements:

  • Renewable to those who initially received the award as a freshman

Award Amount (fall/spring):

  • $5,000

Renewal Requirements:

  • 3.50 Northwest cumulative GPA and completion of 24 credit hours per academic year
  • Maximum award: within 4 consecutive academic years (awarded fall, spring, summer with full time enrollment)

Distinguished Scholar

Requirements:

  • Renewable to those who initially received the award as a freshman

Award Amount (fall/spring):

  • $4,000

Renewal Requirements:

  • Renewal for any aid year prior to the 2024-25 aid year:
    • 3.50 Northwest cumulative GPA and completion of 24 credit hours per academic year
  • Renewal for the 2024-25 and future aid years:
    • 3.00 Northwest cumulative GPA and completion of 24 credit hours per academic year
  • Maximum award: within 4 consecutive academic years (awarded fall, spring, summer with full-time enrollment)

Academic Excellence

Requirements:

  • Renewable to those who initially received the award as freshman

Award Amount (fall/spring):

  • $3,000

Renewal Requirements:

  • 3.00 Northwest cumulative GPA and completion of 24 credit hours per academic year
  • Maximum award: within 4 consecutive academic years (awarded fall, spring, summer with full time enrollment)

Tower Scholar

Requirements:

  • Renewable to those who initially received the award as freshman

Award Amount (fall/spring):

  • $2,000

Renewal Requirements:

  • 3.00 Northwest cumulative GPA and completion of 24 credit hours per academic year
  • Maximum award: within 4 consecutive academic years (awarded fall, spring, summer with full time enrollment)

University Scholar

Requirements:

  • Renewable to those who initially received the award as a freshman

Award Amount (fall/spring):

  • $1,500

Renewal Requirements:

  • 2.75 Northwest cumulative GPA and completion of 24 credit hours per academic year
  • Maximum award: within 4 consecutive academic years (awarded fall, spring, summer with full-time enrollment)

Northwest Merit

Requirements:

  • Renewable to those who initially received the award as a freshman

Award Amount (fall/spring):

  • $1,000

Renewal Requirements:

  • 2.75 Northwest cumulative GPA and completion of 24 credit hours per academic year
  • Maximum award: within 4 consecutive academic years (awarded fall, spring, summer with full-time enrollment)

Continuing Transfer Scholarships

Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship

Requirements:

  • Renewable to those who initially received the award as a first-time transfer

Award Amount (fall/spring):

  • $3,500

Renewal Requirements:

  • 3.50 Northwest cumulative GPA and completion of 24 credit hours per academic year
  • Maximum award: within 3 consecutive academic years (awarded fall, spring, summer with full time enrollment)

Transfer Distinguished Scholarship

Requirements:

  • Renewable to those who initially received the award as a first-time transfer

Award Amount (fall/spring):

  • $2,500

Renewal Requirements:

  • 3.50 Northwest cumulative GPA and completion of 24 credit hours per academic year
  • Maximum award: within 3 consecutive academic years (awarded fall, spring, summer with full time enrollment)

Transfer Academic Scholarship

Requirements:

  • Renewable to those who initially received the award as a first-time transfer

Award Amount (fall/spring):

  • $1,500

Renewal Requirements:

  • 3.30 Northwest cumulative GPA and completion of 24 credit hours per academic year
  • Maximum award: within 3 consecutive academic years (awarded fall, spring, summer with full time enrollment)

Transfer Merit Scholarship

Requirements:

  • Renewable to those who initially received the award as a first-time transfer

Award Amount (fall/spring):

  • $500

Renewal Requirements:

  • 3.30 Northwest cumulative GPA and completion of 24 credit hours per academic year
  • First time award for students with 3.30 GPA and not previously receiving any general university scholarship
  • Maximum award: within 3 consecutive academic years (awarded fall, spring, summer with full time enrollment)

Northwest A+ Scholarship

Requirements:

  • Renewable if initially received as a freshman

Award Amount (fall/spring):

  • $1,500

Renewal Requirements:

  • 3.30 Northwest cumulative GPA and completion of 24 credit hours per academic year
  • Renewable for one year
  • Maximum award: within 2 consecutive academic years (awarded fall/spring only)

Northwest Pathways Scholarship (for students entering fall 2024 and later)

The Northwest Pathways Scholarship is a $1,500 annual award provided to entering first generation students1 who graduated from select high schools2 in a four-state region. 

1Northwest defines first-generation students as those whose parents did not finish a bachelor’s degree.

Requirements:

  • Renewable only to those who initially received the award as a first-time freshman or transfer

Award Amount:

  • $1,500 (fall/spring)

Renewal Requirements:

  • 2.00 Northwest cumulative GPA and completion of 24 credit hours per academic year
  • Maximum award: within 4 consecutive academic years for freshman and within 3 consecutive academic years for transfers (awarded fall, spring, summer with fulltime enrollment)

Multicultural Scholarship (for students entering fall 2023 and earlier)

Requirements:

  • Renewable only to those who initially received the award as a first-time freshman or transfer

Award Amount (fall/spring):

  • $1,000

Renewal Requirements:

  • 3.00 Northwest cumulative GPA and completion of 24 credit hours per academic year
  • Maximum award: within 4 consecutive academic years for freshman and within 3 consecutive academic years for transfers (awarded fall, spring, summer with fulltime enrollment)

TeamMates Scholarship

Requirements:

  • Renewable only to those who initially received the award as a first-time freshman

Award Amount (fall/spring):

  • $500/semester

Renewal Requirements:

  • 3.00 Northwest cumulative GPA and completion of 24 credit hours per academic year
  • Maximum award: within 4 consecutive academic years (awarded fall/spring only)

Bearcat Advantage (for non-Missouri residents)

Award Amount (fall/spring):

  • Estimate: $8,052
Renewal Requirements:
  • 3.00 Northwest cumulative GPA and completion of 24 credit hours per academic year
  • Maximum award: 132 total Northwest credit hours earned
  • Stackable with merit-based freshman scholarships

Northwest Foundation and Major-Specific Scholarships

To be considered for a variety of scholarships awarded by individual campus departments, students are encouraged to complete the Standard Scholarship application each year. These scholarships are funded by our Northwest Foundation, departments, and private donors. The Standard Scholarship Application is available September 1 through February 1, award decisions are made during the month of February, and awarded scholarships are distributed the following academic year. Please note, only for the 2024-25 aid year, this submission deadline is being extended to April 1, 2024. Students can complete the application by logging into to CatPAWS, click the Student tab, and then select the Standard Scholarship Application box.
