The Health and Safety Manager is responsible for oversight of Fire Safety on campus. This includes inspection and testing of all of the fire suppression systems on campus, inspection and testing of all alarm systems, placement, inspection and testing of fire extinguishers and oversight of code enforcement and interpretation.
Scott's responsibilities also include oversight of Environmental Regulation on campus. This includes management, handling and disposal of hazardous waste, asbestos and other chemicals on campus. There are 7 major regulatory acts that the University is responsible for remaining in compliance. Interact with Missouri Department of Natural Resources (MDNR) and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) on behalf of the University.
Ensure that employees have appropriate access to Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) in compliance with federal regulations. Monitor contractors compliance with applicable regulations.
Ensure compliance with life safety codes and regulations. Assist Emergency Management Team in planning and response to disasters/crisis. Coordinate training programs with departmental contacts. Work to maintain and improve general safety on campus.
