Performing Ensembles

Performing ensembles listed below are open to all University students regardless of major. Some, as noted, do require auditions for participation and credit. All ensembles as courses may be repeated for additional credit as per the limitations in individual course descriptions.

Marching Band

Marching activities and performance during the football season. May be taken as many as four times for academic credit. Students may only receive credit for Marching Band or Marching Band Activity in a single trimester.

Madrigal/Swing Choir

Select choral group specializing in madrigal and swing choir literature. Prerequisite: Audition. Maybe taken as many as four times for academic credit. Students may only receive credit for Madrigal/ Swing Choir or Madrigal/Swing Choir Activity in a single trimester.

Wind Symphony

A select instrumental group that specializes in performing the repertoire written for the large and small instrumental combinations, including concert band music. Prerequisite: Audition. May be taken as many as four times for academic credit. Students may only receive credit for Wind Symphony or Wind Symphony Activity in a single trimester.

A large concert symphony with open enrollment performing a variety of music.

Brass Ensemble
A variety of brass ensembles of varying sizes and instrument combinations.

Prerequisite: Permission of instructor.

Woodwind Ensemble
A variety of woodwind ensembles of varying sizes and instrument combinations including such groups as flute choir, woodwind quintet and clarinet choir.

Prerequisite: Permission of instructor.

Jazz Combo
This course is designed to provide the student with a small ensemble to learn and use the concepts of jazz Improvisation and to learn to perform in a small group setting in order to express themselves musically through the jazz idiom.

Prerequisite: Permission of instructor.

Percussion Ensemble
A variety of percussion ensembles of varying sizes and instrument combinations.
