Spring Career Services events include mock interviews, career day

By Kourtnie Stenwall, communication assistant

Northwest Missouri State University Career Services is again offering opportunities this spring for students to seek internships and network with prospective employers through Mock Interview Days, job fairs and other resources.

New this spring, Mock Interview Days are scheduled throughout the semester and aligned with academic interests to help students and employers in related industries. All students are invited to participate in any Mock Interview Day after priority signup dates for specific major areas have passed.

“Career Services has worked hard to identify experiences that bring the most value to students and has adjusted its offerings to bring more diverse employers, job opportunities and connections to campus,” Director of Career Services Hannah Christian said. “Attending a Career Services event can bring you into a network of employers that will help you expand your job and internship opportunities exponentially.”

In addition to networking events, Career Services offers resources to help students with résumés and cover letters, searches for internships and jobs, and interview preparation.

Learn more about Career Services resources and events below or visit the Career Services on the first floor of the Administration Building between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. More information also is available at www.nwmissouri.edu/career/.

Northwest’s focus on profession-based learning

In addition to the multitude of resources offered through Northwest Career Services, the University places a high emphasis on profession-based learning to help graduates get a jumpstart on their careers.

Students have opportunities to build their resumes with experiences on campus in nearly every area of study, including the Horace Mann Laboratory School, National Public Radio affiliate KXCV, the R.T. Wright Farm, Mozingo Outdoor Education Recreation Area and Knacktive, a student-driven integrated digital marketing communications agency. Northwest also offers 1,200 student employment positions on its campus, allowing students to build professional skills through its internationally benchmarked student employment program.

Upon graduating from Northwest, 98 percent of Northwest bachelor’s degree earners and nearly 100 percent of master’s degree earners secure employment or continue their education within six months of graduation, according to the most recent data.
