Parking Information

Parking permits

Employees and students may register now for parking permits for the 2025-26 academic year. Individuals must register their vehicle by visiting the University Police Department website at www.nwmissouri.edu/police/parking/.

Select Parking Permit and then log in with your Northwest network ID and password. Payment for the permit are required at the time of registration via debit or credit card.

After completing the registration, pick up your parking permit at the University Police Department or on the first floor of the Administration Building between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. during the first week of classes. Your Bearcat Card is required to pick up your permit.

Parking warnings are issued the first three days of classes for “failure to register or display a permit.” Citations will be issued for all other offenses.

Traffic changes

Northwest has implemented two major changes to assist with traffic flow on the campus.

University Drive, from Fourth Street to Seventh Street, is now a two-way roadway.

Additionally, the intersection at Memorial Drive and Parking Lot 57 at the J.W. Jones Student Union now includes a three-way stop.

Football game parking

The University Police Department reminds the campus community that the following lots are reserved for all home football games from 6 p.m. Friday night until the game is finished.

All remaining vehicles will be subject to ticketing towing at the owners’ expense.

For a map of parking lot locations on the Northwest campus, click here.

Lot 62 has seven reserved spots for RV tailgating. Those who have reserved a spot have access starting at 6:30 p.m. on the day before home games until noon on the day after games; special hours occur during Homecoming. All parking lots that allow tailgating are open four hours prior to game time.

Click this link for additional tailgating information.

Upcoming Events

Pedagogy Intensive with Dr. Kevin Gannon

The College of Arts, Communication and Social Sciences will host Dr. Kevin Gannon, nationally known as "The Tattooed Professor," for a dynamic Pedagogy Intensive.

Gannon will lead drop-in sessions from 9 to 11:30 a.m. and from 1 to 3 p.m. Friday, Sept. 12, in the Student Union Ballroom. Registration to attend is not necessary.

Click here for more information and to add this event to your calendar.

Wellness Services Flu Clinic

Wellness Services will host a flu clinic for Northwest students and employees from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 8, and from noon to 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 14, in Student Union Meeting Room A.

Employees must bring their insurance card at the time of the injection.

The Centers for Disease Control Prevention recommends a yearly flu vaccine.

Physician Screening Forms due Oct. 15

As a reminder, the Northwest primary care provider wellness program consists of an annual preventive visit and routine labs ordered by a healthcare provider.

Opportunities to get involved

"I Am a Bearcat and..." - Join the Movement!

Northwest employees are invited to be part of the “I Am a Bearcat and…” campaign — an initiative that celebrates the diverse identities, stories and experiences that make up our Bearcat community.

We’re looking for faculty and staff to participate in two meaningful ways:

To participate in either opportunity contact Dr. Jessie Peter, senior coordinator of global engagement at jpeter@nwmissouri.edu.

Bearcat Book Club

Bearcat Book Club chooses one book each semester to stimulate discussions about varying subject matters related to cultural differences and inclusion. Through open dialogue, Northwest employees learn to have brave conversations, build community, embrace differences and become engaged, diverse leaders on campus.

Sign up for the book club

Lattes & Learning

Join the Center for Engagement and Community Connection for casual working discussions over coffee. You don’t need to have read a specific article — just bring your thoughts, ideas and a willingness to learn about all the things happening in the world of higher education. The space is open to Northwest employees at all levels and is perfect for sparking new ideas in a welcoming, low-pressure environment.

Employee Resource Groups

Affinity groups are designed to create safe spaces for members to share and process experiences. Affinity group also allows participants the opportunity to identify ways in which we can appropriately use privilege to bring about social change. For more information, visit Northwest affinity groups.

Benefits Spotlight

BlueKC SmartShopper Program: Earn cash reward for shopping and saving on medical procedures

Northwest has partnered with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas City (Blue KC) to offer employees a share of the savings – in cash – when you shop for a medical procedure and select a cost-effective, in-network provider using SmartShopper.

Medical procedures can have vastly different costs depending on where you receive care. SmartShopper makes it easy to shop and save on a procedure and earn a cash reward for doing so. Here’s how it works:

When a doctor recommends a medical procedure, follow these steps:

  1. Log in at MyBlueKC.com and select Find Care
  2. Select Find Doctors, Specialists & Hospitals
  3. Click the Find Care button in the pop-up
  4. Select the SmartShopper Rewards tile for your search
  5. Receive care at a SmartShopper-eligible, in-network location of your choice.
  6. After the claim is paid, SmartShopper will mail you a reward check.

See below for additional information about the program.

Tobacco Free policy

Northwest is implementing an updated Tobacco Free policy. The University is committed to providing an environment that is safe and healthy. Consistent with this policy, the use of tobacco is prohibited on all University-owned or leased property (“University Property”) and in all University vehicles. This policy applies to all students, employees, contractors, volunteers and visitors.

This policy will go into full effect on July 1. For more information about this policy, click this link.

Family and Medical Leave Act

The University provides family and medical leave in accordance with the federal Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) of 1993. FMLA requires covered employers to provide up to 12 weeks of unpaid, job-protected leave to eligible employees. The University requires that employees substitute (run concurrently) accrued paid leave to which employees may be entitled to cover the employee’s FMLA leave, before using unpaid leave under the FMLA.

If an employee is away from work for three or more consecutive days due to medical reasons, contact the Office of Human Resources regarding FMLA and leave requirements.

Worker's compensation

If an employee is injured at work, injuries must be reported immediately to the employee’s supervisor and the Office of Human Resources. Employees must contact the Office of Human Resources and the state Central Accident Reporting Office before medical treatment is sought. For any questions regarding workplace injuries, contact Human Resources at 660.562.1127.
