  • Served as one of five instructors for Associated Collegiate Press' 2012 summer workshop in multimedia journalism. In three days, the five instructors gathered 50 high school and college journalism students at ACP headquarters in Minneapolis, Minn., provided them with training and equipment, and by the end of the workshop produced a 20-page digital newspaper, website, YouTube channel, Facebook page and comprehensive Twitter feed that covered Minneapolis' news, entertainment and sporting events for the three days of the workshop.

Honors and Awards

  • Named to the College Media Association Hall of Fame as its 43 member in its 70-years of existence Oct. 30, 2023. It is considered the highest honor a college media adviser can receive in the nation. I am one of just eight living members in the Hall.
  • Named as one of 100 college media educators (living and deceased) to the inaugural Pioneer Award Hall of Fame class for Associated Collegiate Press as part of its 100th anniversary at its National College Media Convention in Washington, D.C. Oct. 28, 2022.
  • Named Missouri College Media Association Adviser of the Year in April 2016 at the MCMA annual convention in Cape Girardeau, Missouri.
  • Received the Outstanding Service Award from the Southeast Journalism Conference for service as Vice President from 2008-2010 and running the annual Best of the South journalism competition
  • Named College Media Advisers Distinguished Four-Year Newspaper Adviser, October 2005
  • Board of Directors Citation for Outstanding Service to  College Media Advisers, 2001, 2005
  • Presidential Citation for Outstanding Service to College Media Advisers, 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012.
