Our Accreditation

The Higher Learning Commission (HLC) was founded in 1895 as an independent higher education accreditor. The mission of HLC is to “Serving the common good by assuring and advancing the quality of higher learning.” HLC currently accredits over 1300 institutions of post-secondary education.

Northwest is accredited by the HLC and was most recently reaffirmed in July 2012 using an option known as the Academic Quality Improvement Program (AQIP) Pathway. In 2012 Northwest made the decision to switch HLC pathways, from AQIP to the Open Pathway. All pathways in HLC accreditation are focused on quality assurance and institutional improvement. The Open Pathway has a unique component known as the Quality Initiative (QI). The QI is a major improvement project meeting Northwest's specific needs and aspirations.
