Purpose of Compensation System

To establish a clear and consistent process for reviewing and adjusting employee compensation at Northwest Missouri State University. The objective is to maintain a fair, market aligned and sustained compensation structure.

Strategic Alignment

Goal 3.1 of Northwest's FY26 institutional goals is to offer competitive compensation and benefits, providing opportunities for professional development and growth.

As part of this goal, one of Northwest's objectives is to develop a sustainable compensation system.


Roles & responsibilities

Roles & responsibilities

  • Office of Human Resources: Conducts market research using CUPA-HR data, coordinates review process and drafts recommendations
  • Department leaders: Collaborate with Human Resources when compensation is needed for posting positions and figuring salaries and consult on internal equity considerations
  • Finance office: Reviews financial impact and provides funding recommendations
  • Office of the President: Reviews and approves final salary adjustments

Policy Review

This policy will be reviewed at least every five years to ensure alignment with the University’s compensation philosophy, financial conditions and external market benchmarks.
