Mission Statement

The Northwest Missouri State University Department of Fine and Performing Arts provides an engaging and immersive environment for the preparation of professional artists, educators, scholars, and entrepreneurs who become leaders in art, music, and theatre for a dynamic and diverse world culture.  As an essential member of the College of Arts & Sciences, the Department of Fine and Performing Arts is at the core of the institution, providing hands-on, closely-mentored, profession-based experiences in a collaborative community of excellence.

Our mission emphasizes that Northwest students receive hands-on experiences that enable them to be career-ready, day one. Recent fine arts graduates are in successful positions ranging from teaching in all three areas to professional work in art, music or theatre, to graduate work to further their areas of expertise. Northwest arts majors are active, whether in art or design studios, in concerts, or on or back stage in production events. At Northwest, students immediately dive into their career aspirations in their first trimester with hands-on experiences, whether in exhibitions, concerts or theatrical productions.

Students interested in enrolling in a dynamic arts program where one-on-one work with experienced faculty in state-of-the-art facilities are key components, should contact the Department of Fine and Performing Arts at 660.562.1326 or submit a request for information online.
