Northwest, waste management district hosting composting education event

April 22, 2026

Northwest Missouri State University, in collaboration with Solid Waste Management District A, is hosting a free event to help residents of the region learn about composting.

For Nodaway County residents, a composting education event is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. to noon on Saturday, May 9, at the Dean L. Hubbard Center for Innovation, in Room 1202, located on the Northwest campus at 1400 N. College Drive.

Led by Dr. Alexander Taylor, an assistant professor of agricultural sciences at Northwest, participants will learn how to compost, the benefits of composting, tips for starting a compost pile and solutions for common composting problems.

The first 25 people to register for the event will receive a free composting bin.

For more information or to register, contact Kirk Kopper, a community planner for Solid Waste Management District A, at solid@nwmorcog.org or 660.582.5121, ext. 4.
