The Northwest Missouri State University Wind Symphony will present a concert with the South Harrison High School Concert Band this month.

The concert begins at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 30, in the Mary Linn Auditorium at the Ron Houston Center for the Performing Arts. It is free and open to the public.

“The program offers a variety of great music, including Dr. William Alderman performing as a marimba soloist with the Northwest Wind Symphony,” John Bell, a Northwest artist-in-residence and conductor of the Wind Symphony, said. “It’s an opportunity to support a high school band from another community.”

The Wind Symphony will perform works, including Carol Brittin Chambers’ “Dances for the Muse, Terpsichore;” Percy Aldridge Grainger’s “Colonial Song,” which will feature Northwest student Coy Kirby as a guest conductor; Brett William Dietz’s “Concerto for Marimba and Wind Orchestra, Mvt. 2,” which will feature Alderman, the conductor of Northwest’s Percussion Ensemble; and Alfred Reed’s “Russian Christmas Music.”

The South Harrison High School Concert Band will perform works, including Kevin Day’s “Rocketship!,” Warren Benson’s “Night Song” and Samuel Hazo’s “Novo Lenio.”

Directed by Northwest alumnus William Licop, the South Harrison High School Concert Band will join the Northwest Wind Symphony to play Albert E. Kelly’s “Arnhem March.”
