Northwest Missouri State University alumni and friends are invited to enjoy a fun-filled evening at the ballpark during its annual Northwest Night at the St. Joseph Mustangs, Saturday, June 5.

The baseball game featuring the St. Joseph Mustangs and the Nevada Griffons begins at 7 p.m. at Phil Welch Stadium, 2600 SW Parkway in St. Joseph, Missouri. Alumni and friends also are invited to a tailgate party from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at the Northwest Alumni Association tent outside the stadium. Fans also may enjoy fireworks at the stadium after the game.

“The Northwest Alumni Association is thrilled to be able to offer this event again this year,” Bob Machovsky, director of alumni relations and annual giving at the University, said. “We know for many this past year has been challenging, and this event provides an opportunity for Bearcats to come together and enjoy one of our country’s favorite pastimes.”

The St. Joseph Mustangs are members of the M.I.N.K. Baseball League, a summer collegiate baseball league that includes eight teams from Missouri, Iowa, Nebraska and Kansas. For more information about the St. Joseph Mustangs, visit www.stjoemustangs.com.

Continuing a summer tradition that began in 2011, Northwest Night at the St. Joseph Mustangs is sponsored by Northwest Missouri State University and the Northwest Alumni Association. Additional details are provided below.

Tickets

The Northwest Alumni Association has 400 free tickets available for reservation to Northwest fans.

Additional game tickets will be available to purchase through the Northwest Alumni Association for a discounted price after all free tickets are redeemed. 

Fans may reserve tickets by contacting the Office of Alumni Relations at 660.562.1248 or alumni@nwmissouri.edu.

Tickets must be picked up by 6:30 p.m. on the night of the game at the green Northwest Alumni Association tent at the tailgate party.

Pregame tailgate

Look for the Northwest Alumni Association tent outside of the stadium between 5 and 6:30 p.m. to join the pregame festivities. The tailgate party will feature a meal catered by Hy-Vee, which will include the choice of a hot dog meal for $5 or a hamburger meal for $6; both meal options include chips, cookie and a drink.

Fans attending the tailgate also may have a photo taken with the Bearcat men’s basketball team’s 2021 NCAA Division II National Championship trophy in addition to winning prizes.  

Fans are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and may organize their own traditional tailgating prior to the game.

The Northwest Office of Admissions will be at the tailgate to connect with high school students interested in Northwest. The office will answer questions and provide more information about Northwest and all it has to offer.
