U.S. Senate passes resolution honoring Bearcat basketball title

The U.S. Senate on Monday bestowed yet another honor on the Northwest Missouri State University men’s basketball team by unanimously passing a resolution commending the Bearcats on their 2021 NCAA Division II national championship.

The basketball team beat West Texas A&M University, 80-54, on March 27 to cap a 28-2 season and win its third national title in last four full seasons. The Bearcats finished with the most wins of any NCAA Division II school and as one of five Division II schools to reach 20 wins this season.

U.S. Senators Roy Blunt and Josh Hawley introduced the resolution celebrating the team’s season.

“Through hard work and determination, the Bearcats are once again national champions,” Blunt said. “They finished another incredible season with a blowout win in the national championship. Congratulations to the players, coaches, staff and fans on this great achievement.”

Hawley said, “Congratulations to the 2021 men’s NWMSU Bearcats on their championship win. Their teamwork, discipline and dedication deserve to be celebrated. The entire Northwest Missouri State University community should be proud of the team’s accomplishments.”
