Hooyman to be honored as one of college’s distinguished alumni

Northwest Missouri State University Provost Dr. Jamie Hooyman will be honored this month as a member of North Central Missouri College’s Distinguished Alumni Class of 2020.

Hooyman, who joined Northwest in July 2016 as vice provost and was appointed the University’s first female provost in November 2017, earned an associate in arts degree at North Central, located in Trenton, Missouri, in 1983.

She went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in education with a concentration in physical education at Missouri State University, a master’s degree in education with a concentration in exercise physiology and fitness from Northern Illinois University, and a doctorate of education degree in human performance with a concentration in exercise science from Oklahoma State University.

A native of Trenton, Hooyman also served North Central from 2006 to 2016 in various roles, including vice president of institutional effectiveness. She provided leadership for the college’s academic environment, including instruction, student services, grants, dual credit and outreach, business and industry, and information technology. She also served on a number of state committees and taskforces.

Hooyman also served on the faculty at the University of Central Oklahoma, where she taught undergraduate and graduate courses in its Department of Kinesiology and Health Studies. Prior to working in higher education, she instructed and managed exercise programs at recreation and healthcare facilities.  

As Northwest’s chief academic officer, Hooyman leads the development and assessment of academic programming while overseeing learning operations, academic quality and student success.

Hooyman and other honorees will be recognized March 13 during North Central’s Pirates Ball at the Ketcham Community Center on the college’s campus. For more information, visit
