KXCV-KRNW invites participating in virtual run/walk April 11-25

As communities adapt to social distancing during the COVID-19 pandemic, Northwest Missouri State University’s National Public Radio Affiliate, KXCV-KRNW, is altering its upcoming 5KXCV-KRNW Run for Radio and encouraging individuals to participate virtually.

The 5K run/walk to support the radio station, which had been scheduled for April 18, will now take place April 11-25. Individuals are invited to participate – anytime, anywhere – by clocking their times and then sending a selfie and photo of their results to helenk@nwmissouri.edu or by posting to the KXCV-KRNW Facebook page. Participants interested in running or walking on the Northwest campus may access a course map online

Registration is $25 or $15 for Northwest students and must be completed online by Friday April 17 at www.kxcv.org/events/5K.htm.

Top finishers will receive medals. Individuals who register by April 12 will receive a T-shirt as well as giveaways.

Matt Tritten, an underwriting sales associate for the radio station who partners with Station Manager John Coffey as a “Voice of the Bearcats” on the Bearcat Radio Network, said the KXCV-KRNW team hopes the fundraiser provides a fun activity amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We want people to get up, get active, compete and have a good time – even if all of us can’t get together in one place right now,” Tritten said. “Switching to a virtual 5K means you can be part of this event if you’re a Bearcat living in Maryville or Maine. Whether you are part of the Northwest family or the public radio family, we want you to know we’re still by your side in this difficult time.”

All proceeds go toward supporting programming on KXCV-KRNW.

About KXCV-KRNW

Launched in 1971 as the first full-power public radio service in Missouri, KXCV (90.5 FM), a 100,000-watt NPR affiliate, provides in-depth news and information with an alternative music format. All of KXCV’s programming emanates from the Northwest campus, while a sister station, KRNW (88.9), founded in 1993, extends the radio programming across most of the northern 25 percent of Missouri.

As the flagship of the Bearcat Radio Network, KXCV produces all Northwest football and basketball broadcasts and game feeds to five other commercial radio affiliates throughout the four-state region.

KXCV-KRNW programming is accessible online at www.kxcv.org or via mobile apps such as Public Radio Player and TuneIn Radio as well as its own KXCV-KRNW app.
