Northwest staff members present keynote at financial aid conference

Northwest Missouri State University staff members Chris Scroggins and Brady Willis presented a keynote session Nov. 11 at the Missouri Association of Financial Aid Personnel (MASFAP) annual training conference in Lake Ozark, Missouri.

Scroggins and Willis presented strategies for schools to better support soldiers, veteran students and their families. They also discussed the work, support and collaboration of the Northwest campus to support soldiers, veterans and their families.

Scroggins, a financial assistance counselor at Northwest, served in the Marine Corps from 2005 to 2009 and deployed twice to Iraq. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Northwest in comprehensive crisis response in 2014. He served with Team Rubicon, a nonprofit disaster relief organization, before joining the Northwest staff in 2018.

Willis, a transfer academic advisor at Northwest, completed four years in the U.S. Army that included two combat tours. He graduated from Northwest in 2015 with a bachelor’s degree in comprehensive crisis response and joined the Northwest staff in 2018. He enjoys working to eliminate barriers, create resources and provide support for student veterans to achieve their academic goals.

MASFAP serves students and financial aid administrators in alignment with its mission to improve post-secondary education funding and make higher education affordable for all.

Victory Media, a media entity for military personnel transitioning into civilian life, has named Northwest Missouri State University a Military Friendly School for 2019-2020 in recognition of the University’s commitment to embracing military service members, veterans and their family members and ensuring their success on campus.
