Northwest Missouri State University will celebrate the alumni and friends who contribute generously to the University in support of scholarships, campus facilities and the value of a college degree during the fifth annual “Thank a Donor Day.”

“Thank a Donor Day” activities will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 2, in the J.W. Jones Student Union, where students may share their gratitude by signing a thank you card and recording video messages for donors. Free popcorn also will be available.

Students also will have an opportunity to hop on a cart with Northwest President Dr. John Jasinski and University Advancement staff and answer trivia questions about how donors have supported Northwest while riding to a destination. Additionally, yard signs placed throughout the campus will feature facts about donors’ support of the University.

On its social media channels, the Northwest Alumni Association will highlight students who have benefited from donations and of the some incredible stories of why donors are giving back to Northwest, Bob Machovsky, Northwest’s director of alumni relations and annual giving, said.

The annual event draws attention to the impact that alumni support has throughout the University and actively engages students in the stewardship of alumni donors.

“Northwest’s Thank a Donor Day is special day when the Northwest community comes together to say thank you to our amazing donors,” Machovsky said. “During this day, we find it important to educate students, faculty, staff and the rest of the Northwest community about what donors have done for this deserving and special place.”

The Northwest Foundation, the fundraising arm of Northwest, recorded another historic fiscal year in 2018, securing $4.5 million in donor funding for a record $17 million through its last two fiscal years. Scholarship support also remains a central mission of the Foundation, which awarded $934,000 in financial assistance for 1,217 students during FY18. This represents the second-highest dollar amount awarded in the history of the Foundation, as well as the highest number of donor-funded scholarships awarded.

“We take great pride in our campus, and we want to show the Northwest community the different areas that have benefited from those who really care about this place,” Machovsky said.
