Patricia Boysen Accounting Scholarship celebrating a trailblazing alumna, providing vital support for students pursuing an accounting degree at Northwest.
The Patricia Boysen Accounting Scholarship, has been created to help students pursuing an accounting degree. It honors Patricia Boysen, a remarkable alumna who built a successful career in the field.
Her husband, Irvin "Skip" Boysen, established the scholarship with a pledge of $30,000 over five years. Each year, a full-time Northwest accounting student from Iowa will receive a $1,000 scholarship.
Patricia, a 1968 Northwest graduate, was part of the Bearcat Marching Band and excelled academically. She was also among the first female accounting majors at Northwest, breaking barriers in a male-dominated field. Skip recalls, "She had to kind of find her own way with studying because the guys in the class didn’t want to study with her."
Patricia went on to a 32-year career with the federal government, working for the IRS and the U.S. Department of Agriculture. She and Skip met in Indiana in 1978, married in 1979, and navigated careers that took them from Washington, D.C., back to the Midwest. Patricia's attention to detail was legendary. "She was so exact on everything," Skip remembers.
Patricia also dedicated her time to supporting military families, volunteering as head of a Family Support group from 1995 to 2004, assisting families during deployments to Germany and Iraq.
This scholarship is a wonderful way to honor Patricia's enduring legacy and support future Northwest accounting professionals.
