Needles are.25 to.66 inches long, flat, dark green on top with two whitish bands on the underside

Nova Scotia to Minnesota

40 to 70 feet

Mature Width:
25 to 35 feet

Soil Preference:
Preferable moist, well-drained, acid soils, rocky bluffs or sandy soils

Growth Habit:
Softly and gracefully pyramidal in youth with tapering trunk becoming pendulously pyramidal with age

Medium, 25 to 50' in 15 to 30 years

Additional Notes:

  • Very well suited to city conditions but can die from extremely dry conditions. The soft wood has no value but the bark is used for tanning hides.
