Northwest launches Workday implementation to transform campus systems

Aug. 22, 2025

Northwest Missouri State University has launched its transition to an enterprise software system that will enhance its student experience and improve operations for employees.

Beginning this summer, Northwest is implementing Workday, a modern and unified platform to streamline administrative and student information systems related to areas such as human resources, finance, information technology and enrollment management.

Workday integrates administrative and student information systems into a streamlined platform, improving efficiency and data flow across departments. Its advanced security features ensure data protection and compliance with regulations, including  FERPA, reducing the risk of cybersecurity threats.

Students will benefit from a centralized portal where they can manage their academic progress, course registration, financial aid and billing. Employees will experience streamlined workflows, reducing administrative burdens and improved engagement through real-time notifications and interactive tools.

The initiative marks a major step forward in enhancing operational efficiency and data integration throughout the University.

“It is not just simply a system replacement,” Stacy Carrick, Northwest’s vice president of administration and finance, said. “It is truly a transformation in our workplace. It is a shift in how we do our work and how we serve our students.”

Since April, a dedicated group of Northwest employees has been working closely with the University’s implementation partner, Alchemy, to lay the groundwork for a successful rollout. In June, Northwest and Alchemy hosted a three-day kickoff event on the campus, featuring dynamic discovery sessions to align goals and expectations.

By following a phased approach to implementing Workday, Northwest expects to deploy the system for employees in July 2026. Employees can expect access to powerful new tools for benefits and payroll management, time tracking, recruitment and onboarding, performance assessments and expense reporting, among other resources.

Deployment of the student system will begin in spring 2026 with the first course registration through Workday scheduled for spring 2028 in anticipation of the fall 2028 semester.

By fall 2028, students, faculty and staff will benefit from advanced tools for student records, curriculum management, data analysis and strategic decision-making.

As the implementation progresses, Northwest is organizing a series of forums to keep its community informed of the project and gather feedback to help shape the future of Workday at the University. Northwest also has launched a website to provide more information and updates about the initiative at www.nwmissouri.edu/services/workday.

“The Workday implementation is a transformative initiative that will elevate Northwest’s digital experience and support long-term success,” Carrick said. “As we prepare for the upcoming academic year, we invite the entire Northwest community to stay engaged and informed.”
