Northwest Missouri State University

General Information

Housing

The Bearcat Marching Band will pay early arrival housing costs for those who will be living on campus during the school year, beginning only on your assigned report day to camp. Students who wish to move in before their assigned report date (for any reason) will have to pay that additional cost themselves, and should contact residential life to make arrangements: 660.562.1214.

We strongly recommend that you check-in to campus housing as early as possible to maximize the time for moving into campus housing before reporting back to camp. Rehearsals will begin shortly after lunch on the move-in day. We have found that students who arrive at registration early are able to move in to their housing, eat lunch, and report to camp on time with little no problem.

Meals

Meal plans will be active beginning Thursday, August 25, at lunch; before August 25 all students should plan to be responsible for their own meals; some meals may be provided, but that is unknown at this time. All members not on a university meal plan are repsonsible for their own meals throughout camps, unless we are able to provide them (as referred to above). Dining facilities will be open on campus as well as local fast food, etc.

What to Bring to Camp

Freshman Convocation performance uniform: BMB baseball cap (this is new--details will be communicated to you via email), khaki shorts, capris, or pants in good condition (shorts are recommended), tennis shoes, white socks. If an undershirt is worn, it must be Bearcat Green or white.

Instruments

School-owned piccolos, mellophones, trombones, baritones, sousaphones, and drums will be issued to those who require them at no cost; we have a limited supply of woodwind instruments as well (but, if possible, it is recommended that you use your own). Students not requiring a school instrument are encouraged to bring their own. Clarinet and saxophone players must provide their own reeds.

Costs

A BMB t-shirt will be supplied to every member free of charge. Costs for the BMB baseball cap (this is a new requirement), marching shoes, gloves, and flip-folder lyres will be communicated to all those registered for BMB camps by the organization that secures these materials, Kappa Kappa Psi Band Fraternity.

All members of the BMB (with the exception of the colorguard) will be charged a one-time $17.00 uniform and parka dry cleaning fee at the end of the semester. Colorguard members will be charged an $8.00 parka dry cleaning fee only.

BMB members pay very few fees for participation in our ensemble—we do not charge instrument rental, t-shirt cost, and travel costs are minimal. Instrumentalists are required to pay for dry cleaning, marching shoes (if you already own black marching band shoes in good condition, you may use those and do not have to buy new), gloves, and the new BMB baseball cap. These costs will be communicated to you via email, along with the policies for payment. Colorguard members are required to purchase our selected jazz shoes, jazz pants, and a wind breaker. In addition, multiple gameday meals are provided to our members across the course of the season.

Drumline Auditions

Drumline auditions will be held the first day of camp. All potential members are required to audition, and music to prepare along with instructions will be emailed to all percussionists by mid-July. If you would like to receive a copy of the audition packet, please contact us at nwbands@nwmissouri.edu.

BMB Weekly Rehearsals

The BMB meets Monday through Friday from 4:10-5:15 p.m. during the Fall semester. Attendance at all rehearsals is required. Members with unavoidable class conflicts must should email Dr. Strickland immediately at nwbands@nwmissouri.edu. All members must be registered for one of the two BMB classes (either Academic or Activity Credit).
