Stop the Stop-Out Endowed Scholarships

Each semester, an average of 20 to 30 Bearcat students do not return, citing inability to pay as their No. 1 reason. These are students who typically are working two or more jobs, in addition to attending classes. They’ve never missed a payment, have solid grades and a desire to graduate. Perhaps their parents or guardians aren’t able or willing to take out a parent loan, or the student is loan averse. Whatever the situation, it sometimes results in a decision to withdraw from Northwest based on a final payment of as little as $1,000 or $2,000.

The Stop the Stop-Out Endowed Scholarship Fund will be administered by Northwest’s financial aid office and awarded to a student who has otherwise paid all their bills on time and has no outstanding payments for room and board or campus fees. It would benefit a student who is truly working to make ends meet in a timely fashion and has simply come up short.
