Donation Creation

Donation Creation

Donation Creation (formerly Canned Art) is both a feat of structural engineering and creativity. Student organizations are invited to create a structure using only non-perishable food items that represents their best, and most original, expression of Bearcat Pride and the year’s Homecoming theme.

All Donation Creation structures will be placed on the 2nd floor of the J.W. Jones Student Union for display the week of Homecoming. A panel of faculty, staff, and community members will judge the Donation Creation entries and select winners. A secondary, “People’s Choice,” competition accompanies the Homecoming Donation Creation competition. Donation Creation entries can be ‘voted’ on by donation of non-perishable food items. All non-perishables collected will be donated to area food pantries. See below for detailed deadlines regarding the Homecoming Donation Creation competition. Please refer to the Homecoming Bylaws for detailed descriptions of rules and regulations.

Walkout Day

Walkout Day

Walkout Day is one of Northwest Homecoming’s longest standing traditions, dating back to Oct. 22, 1915. On this date, students walked out of classes and declared the day an unscheduled holiday. Early Walkout Days featured all-school picnics and hikes. Now, Walkout Day is filled with student-focused events as a part of the annual Homecoming Week. See below for more information about Walkout Day events.

Bell of ’48 Ringing

The class of 1948 gifted Northwest with a bronze memorial bell in honor of all soldiers who fought and died during World War II, especially those fallen soldiers who attended Northwest or who once lived in northwest Missouri. The bell heralds Northwest achievements and celebrations and mournfully chimes to honor the passing of students. The ringing of the bell commences Walkout Day and the beginning of Homecoming festivities.
