Dr. Charles Badami, an assistant professor of computer science and information systems at Northwest Missouri State University, was awarded a certificate for an oral presentation of his paper, “On Malware Detection in the Android Operating System,” last month at the International Conference on Algorithms, Computing and Systems (ICACS).

Badami’s paper highlights the ever-growing threat of malware to Android mobile devices. He studied Android malware detection methods with static, dynamic and family signature analysis techniques.

“This problem concerns everyone because most people use a mobile device, and I think everyone understands the importance of keeping it safe,” Badami said. “No one wants their phone and privacy compromised.”

The ICACS is an annual conference in Berlin that provides a platform for scholars, scientists, engineers and students from universities and industries throughout the world to discuss progress in algorithms, computing and systems, development of new concepts and advances in modern computer science.

Badami joined the Northwest faculty in 2008 and teaches programming, database systems and information technology management courses. His academic interests include computer science education, programming languages and music theory.
