Transfer Scholarships

University and State Sponsored Scholarships

These scholarships are awarded through University and state programs. Such scholarships include Bright Flight, the Missouri Teacher Education Scholarship and National Guard/ROTC Scholarship among others.

Northwest Foundation Scholarships

These scholarships are funded by our Northwest Foundation. They are not specific to any major, but may be limited by academic, geographic, or grade level criteria.

Major-Specific Scholarships

These scholarships are funded by contributions to our Northwest Foundation or by private donors and are specified to designated majors.

Admission-based Transfer Scholarships (No Application Needed)

No separate scholarship is required. Scholarship level is determined by the transfer GPA and transferable credit hours provided on the college transcript(s) with Admission Application.

Program in effect for students entering Northwest for the first time in fall 2013. Admission deadline for Fall awards is May 1.

President' Scholarship

  • Initial Requirements:
    • 42 transferable credit hours completed by deadline of application
    • 3.50 cumulative GPA in transfer
    • Accepted for admission by May 1-fall award.
  • Award: $5,000
    • Competitive; minimum of six awarded
    • Notification to student by May 20
  • Renewal Requirements:
    • Minimum 3.50 Northwest cumulative GPA and completion of 24 credit hours per academic year.
  • Maximum Award: Six trimesters within consecutive academic years

Transfer Distinguished Scholarship

  • Initial Requirements:
    • 24 transferable credit hours completed by time of application
    • 3.5-4.00 cumulative GPA in transfer
    • First-time student at Northwest
  • Award: $2,500
  • Renewal Requirements:
    • Minimum 3.50 Northwest cumulative GPA and completion of 24 credit hours per academic year. If Northwest cumulative GPA is less than 3.5, student will follow Transfer Academic Scholarship and is not eligible to return to the Transfer Distinguished Scholar Program. 
  • Maximum Award: Six trimesters within consecutive academic years

Transfer Academic Scholarship

  • Initial Requirements:
    • 24 transferable credit hours completed by time of application
    • 3.30-3.49 cumulative GPA in transfer
    • First-time student at Northwest
  • Award: $1,500
  • Renewal Requirements:
    • Minimum 3.30 Northwest cumulative GPA and completion of 24 credit hours per academic year. If Northwest cumulative GPA is less than 3.30 at end of academic year, student is not eligible to return to Transfer Academic Scholarship.
  • Maximum Award: Six trimesters within consecutive academic years.

Transfer Merit

  • Initial Requirements:
    • 24 transferable credit hours completed by time of application
    • 3.00-3.29 cumulative GPA in transfer
    • First-time student at Northwest
  • Award: $500
  • Renewal Requirements:
    • Renews to the University Scholar Program with completion of 24 credit hours per academic year and a Northwest cumulative GPA of 3.30. 
  • Maximum Award: Two trimesters of Transfer Merit and six trimesters of University Scholar within consecutive academic years.

Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship

  • Initial Requirements:
    • Indicate Phi Theta Kappa membership on application
    • 3.50 cumulative GPA in transfer
    • 24 transferable credit hours completed by time of application
    • Accepted for admission by May 1
    • First-time student at Northwest
  • Award: $750
  • Renewal Requirements:
    • Notification to student by May 20 
    • Copy of Phi Theta Kappa certificate of membership required with acceptance form.
  • Maximum Award: Nonrenewable

Bearcat Advantage

  • Initial Requirements:
    • At least 24 transferable credit hours: must have cumulative GPA of 3.00
    • Non-Missouri Residents
    • First-time student at Northwest
  • Award:
    • Estimate - $3,054.30 (50% reduction in difference between in-state and out-of-state tuition based on 30 credit hours for fall/spring trimester)
    • With a 3.00 Northwest cumulative GPA and completion of 24 credit hours, student would be eligible for the Non-Resident Award and either MSEP or Out of State Award
  • Maximum Award: Nonrenewable

Midwest Student Exchange Program (MSEP)

  • Initial Requirements:
    • At least 24 transferable credit hours: must have cumulative GPA of 3.00
    • If less than 24 completed hours, must have Admissions Index of 140-199 or ACT 23-26 and minimum 2.0 high school GPA and be a regular admit
    • Resident of Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota, or Wisconsin 
    • First-time student at Northwest
  • Award: Estimate - $3,054.30 (50% reduction in difference between in-state and out-of-state tuition based on 30 credit hours for fall/spring trimester)
  • Renewal Requirements:
    • 3.00 Northwest cumulative GPA and completion of 24 credit hours per academic year. 
  • Maximum Award: 132 total credit hours earned (including dual credit and transfer hours)

Out-of-State Award

  • Initial Requirements:
    • At least 24 transferable credit hours: must have cumulative GPA of 3.00
    • If less than 24 completed hours, must have Admissions Index of 140-199 or ACT 23-26 and minimum 2.0 high school GPA and be a regular admit
    • Nonresident from states other than Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota, or Wisconsin
    • First-time student at Northwest
  • Award: Estimate - $3,054.30 (50% reduction in difference between in-state and out-of-state tuition based on 30 credit hours for fall/spring trimester)
  • Renewal Requirements:
    • 3.00 Northwest cumulative GPA and completion of 24 credit hours per academic year. 
  • Maximum Award: 132 total credit hours earned (including dual credit and transfer hours)

Non-Resident Award

  • Initial Requirements:
    • Completed 24 Northwest credit hours
    • 3.00 Northwest cumulative GPA
  • Award: Estimate: - $6,108.60 (100% waiver of out-of-state fees composed of 50% MSEP or Out-of-State Award and 50% Non-Resident Award)
  • Renewal Requirements:
    • 3.00 Northwest GPA and completion of 24 credit hours per academic year. 
  • Maximum Award: 132 total credit hours earned (including dual credit and transfer hours)

Cultural Enrichment Scholarship

  • Initial Requirements:
    • 24 transferable credit hours 
    • 3.00 cumulative GPA
    • First-time student at Northwest
    • ELIGIBILITY: American Indian or Alaska Native, Asian, Black or African American, Hispanic/Latino, Native Hawaiian or other Pacific Islander, U.S. citizen or graduate from eligible high school. Must participate in MORE mentoring program. For further information reference the "Diversity" brochure or contact the IIC office at 660.562.1367. 
  • Award: $1,000
    • Limited number awarded
  • Renewal Requirements:
    • 3.00 Northwest cumulative GPA, completion of 24 credit hours per year, and acceptable participation in MORE program 
  • Maximum Award: Six trimesters within consecutive academic years

Alumni Scholarship

  • Initial Requirements:
    • Son, daughter or spouse of Northwest alumnus
      Provide alumnus' personal information on Admissions application
  • Award: $500
    •  Notification made from Alumni Office 
  • Maximum Award: Nonrenewable

Private Scholarships

These scholarships are funded by private donors. They are not specific to any major, but may be limited by academic, geographic, or grade level criteria.
