Our Mission

The HOPE Initiative will help foster the healthiest learning environment possible at Northwest Missouri State University by preventing suicide and suicide-related behaviors through education, promotion of mental health, and encouragement of help-seeking behaviors.

Our Goals

The five goals of The HOPE Initiative are to:

  1. Help Northwest students adapt to college life in healthy ways
  2. Destigmatize mental health issues and help-seeking behavior
  3. Educate students on suicide-related issues
  4. Strengthen Northwest policies concerning students in crisis
  5. Forge strong campus/community partnerships centered on suicide prevention efforts

Northwest Missouri State University Online Suicide Prevention Training Program. This resource is free and only takes about 20 minutes to complete.

This online program was designed to help prevent suicide by teaching how to:

  1. Identify people at risk for suicide
  2. Recognize the risk factors, protective factors, and warning signs of suicide
  3. Respond to and get help for people at risk
