 Tips for Students

  • FedEx & UPS packages are generally received more quickly than United States Postal Service (USPS) packages. FedEx & UPS deliver directly to the MDC.
  • The Materials Distribution Center (MDC) sends UPS & FedEx packages and receives USPS, UPS, & FedEx packages. The Mail/Copy Center sends USPS packages.
  • What if my UPS or FedEx package tracking shows “delivered” but it is not at my residence hall front desk? UPS & FedEx tracking shows “delivered” when the package was received at the MDC. MDC personnel still need to sort and deliver the packages to the residence halls – typically the next work day. If you want your package earlier, it can be picked up at the MDC 8am-5pm on weekdays. Please call the MDC first to ensure your package is there.
  • What if my USPS package tracking shows “delivered to final agent” or "delivered to Maryville" but it is not at my residence hall front desk? USPS tracking shows "delivered to Maryville" when it has arrived at the post office in Maryville. MDC personnel still need to pick up the package at the post office. USPS tracking shows “delivered to final agent” when the package was picked up at the post office by MDC personnel. MDC personnel still need to sort and deliver the packages to the residence halls – typically the next work day. If you want your package earlier, it can be picked up at the MDC 8am-5pm on weekdays. Please call the MDC first to ensure your package is there.
  • Packages are not received or delivered on weekends. Do not pay extra for Saturday delivery because your package will not arrive at Northwest until Monday.
  • Address your package clearly with your first and last name, residence hall, and room number. Do not use your parent’s name. Packages without clear addresses delay the delivery process. If you realize that a package coming to you does not have a clear address, contact the MDC.
  • Oversize packages (futons, fridges, etc.) may not fit in the package area at your residence hall or The Station. MDC will contact the student to arrange a time to deliver the item to the residence hall front desk.
  • Students may drop off items to be sent via UPS or FedEx at MDC. Students must purchase and print a label for their items prior to drop off. MDC can provide assistance. Students may drop off items to be sent via USPS and purchase USPS postage at the Mail/Copy Center.
  • UPS & FedEx packages cannot be forwarded. The MDC can make arrangements to send a UPS or FedEx package if the student provides a prepaid label. USPS packages can be forwarded if a student has provided a forwarding address.
