M.S.Ed. Health and Physical Education


The Recreation program at Northwest Missouri State University offers a completely online Master’s of Education in Health and Physical Education that provides an in-depth understanding of the fast moving, increasingly complex challenges in the world of recreation. Students will make full use of interactive, online learning activities designed to challenge and inspire growth. Students “come” to ”class” at times when they are ready to learn — not at a specific time in the evening after working all day.


In order to earn the Master's of Education in Health and Physical Education Online, students must complete 33 credit hours, including 18 hours of core Recreation courses and 15 hours of advisor-approved elective courses.

To be considered for admission to graduate studies at Northwest, an applicant should submit an application well in advance of enrollment date. The application along with official transcripts of all previous degree(s) and credits earned from all accredited institutions, and GREGMAT scores or alternative requirements, if applicable, must be submitted to the Graduate Office.

Our admissions process combines an examination of academic ability with flexible assessment of an applicant's experience and potential.

Program Admission Requirements:

  1. Make application to the Graduate School
  2. A minimum GPA of 2.75 on the undergraduate transcript.
  3. A minimum combined score of 280 on the verbal and quantitative sections of the Graduate Record Exam (GRE)
    *GRE can be waived with 2 years of your documented work experience in a faculty approved recreation setting
  4. Minimum score of 3.5 on the GRE Writing Assessment or taking of 1 credit hour Online Research Report Writing class in first semester.
