Founded in 1917, the American Association of Petroleum Geologists is currently the world's largest professional geological society.
The membership of AAPG includes geologists, geophysicists, CEOs, managers, consultants, students and academicians. The purpose of the organization is to foster scientific research, advance the science of geology, promote technology and inspire high professional conduct.
Eligibility and Dues
Anyone majoring or minoring in the Earth Sciences (geology, geography, GIS, etc) or a related field may join AAPG.
Dues are free for the first year to new members and are $10 per year after.

On November 2, 2009 the Northwest chapter took a trip to Powell Observatory outside Louisburg, KS with a stop at the science supply outlet HMS Beagle.
Grants
Undergraduate and Graduate Grants are available on the national website here, including the L. Austin Weeks Memorial Grant which is often awarded to Northwest students.
