Career Services launches ‘Behind the Bearcat’ podcast

The Northwest Missouri State University community has a chance to hear the behind-the-scenes stories of fellow Bearcats through a new podcast produced by Career Services.

“Behind the Bearcat,” hosted by Career Services Internship Coordinator Travis Kline and Assistant Director of Career Services Hannah Christian features Northwest faculty and staff members sharing stories of their first jobs and career advice.

“Everyone’s career is basically a set of stories, and since I work all day every day to prepare students to go out into the wide world of work, I thought it would be fun to hear the collective Bearcat ‘work story,’” Christian said. “I’ve already taken tremendous amounts of wisdom from each interview that I can share with other people.”

The weekly podcast is focused on sharing Bearcats’ stories to help students understand the complexities of career paths and that no career path is perfect.

“Majors and jobs don’t always line up as well as you think they should,” Christian said. “Every Bearcat has a few good stories about how they ended up at Northwest. These interviews show a little bit of the human side of people we work with on a daily basis and give us an appreciation of each other as well.”

Kline added, “We are all from such varied backgrounds and experiences, and I really believe that all Bearcats have stories and advice that can help other members of the Bearcat family. I really hope students who listen learn that all career paths are complicated and people are not always what they seem. The professors they have in classes have struggled; the professionals in the offices they interact with have had to overcome obstacles, and everyone has wisdom to share.”
