Dr. Matthew Baker, the vice president of student affairs at Northwest Missouri State University, recently was appointed to the Mosaic Life Care Board of Trustees.

Mosaic Life Care is a physician-led health care organization based in St. Joseph, Missouri. In April, it assumed ownership of SSM Health St. Francis Hospital in Maryville. The Board of Trustees is the fiduciary and governing body for Mosaic Life Care.

“I am excited to represent Maryville on the Mosaic Health System Board,” Baker said. “Mosaic is bringing their reputation of exceptional care to Maryville, and I look forward to expanded partnerships throughout the community.”

At Northwest, Baker has oversight of student conduct, housing, dining, student union and bookstore operations, Greek life, wellness services, campus recreation, volunteer services and student leadership development.

Baker joined the Northwest staff in 1993 as a residence hall director before leaving in 1996 to pursue a master's degree in higher education administration at the University of Arkansas-Fayetteville.

He returned to Northwest in 1998 as residential life coordinator for student services and subsequently served as assistant director of residential life, associate director of residential life and director of residential life. He served as dean of students from 2008 until his appointment as vice president of student affairs in 2011.

In addition to his master’s degree, Baker earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Kansas State University and a Doctorate of Education from the University of Missouri-Columbia.
