Students, alumni invited to visit New York with Department of Humanities and Social Sciences

By Leah Newell, communication assistant

The Department of Humanities and Social Sciences at Northwest Missouri State University will offer an opportunity to travel to New York in April.

Dr. Kim Casey, an associate professor of political science, and Dr. Jessica Gracey, an assistant professor of political science, will lead the five-day trip. Official dates will be released once the tour is confirmed.

Casey hopes the trip will be an enriching experience that allows students to explore the many facets of the United States’ largest city and culture.

“Combining travel with the classroom experience is such a fantastic reinforcement,” Casey said. “There is nothing I enjoy more than conducting this type of learning.”

Interested students must enroll in Research Seminar in Political Science. The course topic will be “The Politics of New York City.” Students must also have completed Introduction to American Government and Politics.

In New York, students will visit a variety of locations and venues, including a Broadway show, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Statue of Liberty, the National September 11 Memorial and Museum and the United Nations.

The cost includes airfare, hotel and motor transportation throughout the tour, as well as all entrance and event fees, and breakfasts and dinners.

Registration is open until Tuesday, Oct. 1, and is accessible by bringing your deposit to Casey in Valk Center Room 62 or by bringing it to the Department of Humanities and Social Science office. A $150 deposit is due upon registration, and the estimated total cost is $2,000, which does not include the cost of tuition.
