Foreman is state, Midwest Student Employment Supervisor of Year

Northwest Missouri State University’s Selena Foreman has been named the Student Employment Supervisor of the Year for the state of Missouri as well as the Midwest region.

Foreman, an office manager in Northwest’s Auxiliary Services area, received two checks totaling $150 and two certificates during a campus ceremony recognizing the achievement Monday afternoon. She also will receive a trophy.

The state award is sponsored by the Midwest Association of Student Employment Administrators (MASEA) and annually recognizes a faculty or staff student employment supervisor for their achievements in mentoring, professionalism and leadership. MASEA began recognizing student employment supervisors in 2015, and a Northwest staff member has won the Missouri award in each of the first five years.

Foreman, however, is the first student employment supervisor from Northwest to receive MASEA’s regional award. The regional level is the highest honor and is presented to one supervisor in a 14-state region.

Foreman, who joined Northwest’s staff in 2016, was honored April 8 as Northwest’s Student Employment Supervisor of the Year during the University’s annual awards and recognition ceremony. Recipients of the state and regional awards are selected from the winners of institutional awards.

Her nominator wrote, “Selena is positive, encouraging, and supportive. She promotes an environment with a can-do attitude and will always jump in to help students when needed. It is because of this empowering work environment Selena has created, that our student employees have the ability to make an impact. She has given them leadership opportunities with different committee responsibilities. Several members of her team now ‘own’ different processes that formerly were reserved for professional staff. This includes software configuration, utility billing and oversight of determining the ResLife Cinema movie service. I am proud to witness the impact she is having on our Bearcats. I feel I can speak for myself and our team when I say she truly is an asset, and we are lucky to have her as a mentor for our student employees.”

Northwest’s internationally benchmarked student employment program offers about 1,200 jobs to students in all areas of campus, integrating students into University operations while providing them opportunities to gain profession-based experience and build their résumés on the campus.
