Forbes, Statista rank Northwest among top employers in Missouri

Northwest Missouri State University is among Missouri’s best employers, according to a recent survey conducted by Forbes and Statista, a market research company.

Forbes partnered with Statista to pinpoint the organizations liked best by employees in its inaugural list of the America’s Best-in-State Employers. In Missouri, the survey places Northwest third among higher education institutions, behind Saint Louis University and Saint Louis Community College.

At No. 49 overall in Missouri, Northwest ranks ahead of companies such as Amazon, Hilton, Deloitte, PetSmart and Bank of America.

“Northwest has a special culture and it is always good to be validated by other sources,” Northwest President Dr. John Jasinski said. “We are proud of our faculty and staff, their diligent focus on uplifting student success, supporting and growing communities, and instilling our brand of profession-based learning. To be sure, we have areas for improvement, but it is always good to be recognized for the strengths we provide.”

To determine each state’s best employers, Statista surveyed 50,000 Americans working for businesses with at least 500 employees. The anonymous survey allowed participants to openly share their opinions and asked respondents to rate, on a scale of zero to 10, how likely they would be to recommend their employer to others. Statista also asked respondents to nominate organizations in industries outside their own. The survey ranks employers that received the greatest number of recommendations in each of the 50 states as well as the District of Columbia. With 691 employees, Northwest is a coeducational, primarily residential four-year university that offers a broad range of undergraduate and selected graduate programs on its Maryville campus as well as its Northwest-Kansas City location at the Northland Innovation Center and through Northwest Online.

By placing emphasis on profession-based learning to help graduates get a jumpstart on their careers, the University boasts a graduation rate in the 89th percentile of its national peer group. In addition, 97 percent of Northwest bachelor’s degree earners and 97 percent of master’s degree earners secure employment or continue their education within six months of graduation, according to the most recent data. Zippia, a career website, names Northwest the best college in Missouri for getting a job.

Founded in 1905, Northwest has been ranked by U.S. News and World Report during three of the last five years as the top moderately selective regional university in Missouri. Safewise has ranked the city of Maryville as one of the “Safest College Towns in America,” and BestCollegesOnline.org has named the Northwest campus one of the “50 Most Amazing University Botanical Gardens and Arboretums in the U.S.”
