The U.S. Senate today bestowed yet another honor on Northwest Missouri State University’s men’s basketball team by unanimously passing a resolution commending the Bearcats on their undefeated season, which ended with an NCAA Division II national championship in March.
The men’s basketball team beat Point Loma Nazarene University, 64-58, on March 30 to cap a perfect 38-0 season and win its second national title in three years. Northwest became only the fifth Division II program to record an undefeated season and win a national title.
As a result, U.S. Senators Roy Blunt and Josh Hawley introduced the resolution celebrating the team’s season.
“The Bearcats were unstoppable this season, earning another national championship and finishing the year with a perfect record,” Blunt said. “Congratulations to the players, coaches and fans on another great season. I look forward to seeing what this team can accomplish next year.”
Hawley said, “Missouri is proud of the Bearcats’ fantastic season, and we congratulate them on everything they were able to accomplish as a team. The effort and determination by these young men does not go unnoticed.”

State Sen. Dan Hegeman and State Rep. Allen Andrews also delivered resolutions to the basketball team during Northwest’s April 14 on-campus celebration of the season.
