Funeral arrangements announced for Northwest employee

Northwest Missouri State University is mourning the passing of one of its employees this week.

Joyce Luke, Northwest’s assistant coordinator of field experience in the School of Education, died Sunday after a battle with cancer. She began her employment with Northwest in 2009.

A visitation is scheduled from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 14, at Bram-Danfelt Funeral Home in Maryville. A funeral is scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 15, at St. Gregory’s Catholic Church. A full obituary is accessible by clicking here.

In an email announcing Luke’s passing to University employees, Northwest President Dr. John Jasinski wrote the following:

“Please join us with thoughts and prayers as we reflect on the beautiful impacts Joyce had on all of us. Her ever-positive outlook amid such difficult and prolonged struggles can serve as a clear message for us all. Her selflessness is unparalleled.

Help and serve others, treat each other well, be tough and courageous, be Bearcats. I’m certain Joyce would encourage this of all Bearcats.

As Dr. Tim Wall, the dean of our School of Education, reminds us, she made the world brighter for having her in it, and we celebrate getting to know and work with her.”

Northwest reminds the campus community that counseling is available at Wellness Services from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, by calling 660.562.1348, and individuals needing assistance outside of regular office hours should contact University Police at 660.562.1254.
