The B.D. Owens Library and University Wellness Services is inviting all Northwest Missouri State University students to join a new book club this fall. The book club will feature different genres, and is open to all student suggestions.
Carolyn Johnson, a research and outreach librarian at Owens Library who is organizing the club, hopes it will create social interaction and lasting friendships among students.
“The book club will offer students an informal place to get together and talk about something they all like and can relate with,” Johnson said.
Students do not need to purchase books for the club, and the club will not read entire books. Students will read and discuss poetry, short stories and chapters from books.
“There will not be anything students have to prepare for or read more than they already are for class,” Johnson said. “Students do not have to come every time. If something else comes up or you have another organization responsibility, it is fine. Just drop in and enjoy it.”
The club will meet every other Tuesday, starting at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 11, on the first floor of B.D. Owens Library. The first book will be Mary Oliver’s “Dog Songs,” a collection of poems about the connection between humans and dogs.
