CSIS faculty, student earn Best Paper award at Midwest conference

Faculty members and a graduate student representing Northwest Missouri State University’s School of Computer Science and Information Systems recently were awarded Best Paper  May 17 at the Midwest University States Association for Information Systems (MWAIS) annual conference in St. Louis.

Faculty members Dr. Joni Adkins and Dr. Cindy Tu, along with Gary Zhao, student pursuing his master’s degree in information systems, co-authored the paper, “Complying with BYOD Security Policies: A Moderation Model,” which provides a theoretical model to identify key factors that affect employees’ intentions to comply with an organization’s bring-your-own-device security policies. The authors conducted a survey of employees who were applying BYOD policies to help organizations better understand employee behaviors tied to coping with security challenges from BYOD applications.

The paper submitted by Adkins, Tu and Zhao was one of three papers to receive the Best Paper honor after a blind peer-review. Seventy-two papers were submitted.

MWAIS is a chapter of the Association for Information Systems (AIS) and serves members in the states of Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Dakota and Wisconsin. The chapter promotes the exchange of ideas, experiences and knowledge among scholars and professionals engaged in the development, management and use of information and communications systems and technology.
