‘Dear World’ interactive event coming to Northwest Feb. 1

Add to Calendar

Northwest Missouri State University’s Student Activities Council, (SAC), will host “Dear World,” an award-winning interactive event that explores the subtle and powerful connections of students, faculty and staff.

“Dear World” visits colleges and universities to take portraits that result in a participatory and emotionally stimulating event featuring portraits and stories that will make audiences smile, cry and laugh aloud.

A “Dear World” team will visit Northwest at 5 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 1, for a workshop in the J.W. Jones Ballroom. Then, the culminating event, at 7 p.m. in the Ballroom, will amplify individual stories and focus on why learning about people is vital to success.

Individuals interested in attending the workshop and having their portrait taken should visit http://nwmissouri.workshop.dearworld.com/. Each individual portrait will include a message describing the person or something they care about.

SAC leaders were inspired and selected the event for Northwest after learning about it at a National Association for Campus Activities conference.

“The importance of having it here at Northwest is to celebrate diversity, enthusiasm and energy of the students, faculty, and staff,” said T.J. Johnson, a junior majoring in elementary education and special education from Excelsior Springs, Missouri, who serves as SAC’s lecture director. “By the end of the event, we will realize that through our stories there is actually much more that brings us together than what keeps us apart. We all have a story and we all have a voice, and they deserve to be heard.”
