Northwest Missouri State ended its 2017 Homecoming week Monday with the awards ceremony announcing winners of competitions throughout the annual celebration.

Northwest hosted its Homecoming week, “Bearcats Around the World,” Oct. 15-23, with a variety of activities, including traditions such as the office decorating contest, Variety Show, the 20th annual International Flag-Raising Ceremony, parade and the Homecoming football game. The University also welcomed the class of 1967 during its annual Golden Years Society Reunion and dedicated the Michael L. Faust Center for Alumni and Friends.

During Thursday’s performance of the Variety Show, Sam Spencer and Jessica Buckley were crowed Homecoming King and Queen. Spencer, of Kansas City, Missouri, is a senior criminology major, and Buckley, of Papillion, Nebraska, is a senior majoring in elementary education and special education (cross categorical).

During the University’s 11th annual Homecoming Canned Art Contest Oct. 16, students and organizations assembled displays of perishable food items. Northwest collected 2,301 pounds of food through the contest that was donated to the Maryville Ministry Center. An additional 600 cans and boxed goods were collected for Northwest’s Pay it Forward Food Pantry.

Additionally, the Office of Student Affairs, located in the J.W. Jones Student Union, won the Homecoming office decorating contest. Facility Services took second place, and the Office of International Involvement, located in the B.D. Owens Library, claimed third place.

The 2017 Homecoming Executive Board consisted of Executive Co-Chairs Kali Fujinami and Mason Devooght and Executive Secretary Lucy Hillard.
