News Release

Oct. 18, 2017

Friday activities at Northwest include Board of Regents meeting, International Flag Raising Ceremony, Faust Center dedication

Northwest Missouri State University’s Board of Regents will meet in a regular session at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 20, in the J.W. Jones Student Union Boardroom as part of a busy Walkout Day on the Northwest campus.

The tentative Board meeting agenda is available at www.nwmissouri.edu/aboutus/regents/meetings/2017/Oct20.htm and includes a vote to close part of the meeting pursuant to R.S. MO 610.021(1)(2)(3)(13). After any closed session, the Board may, at its discretion, decide to go back into open session to discuss any old business or raise new items as individual members deem appropriate.

Friday’s schedule at Northwest, as part of the University’s Homecoming activities, also includes the 20th annual International Flag Raising Ceremony at 2 p.m. at the Joyce and Harvey White International Flag Plaza. Students will begin carrying the flags of their countries to the ceremony at 1:45 p.m. at the B.D. Owens Library and parade through the Memorial Bell Tower to the International Flag Plaza.

At 4 p.m., Northwest will host a dedication and ribbon-cutting ceremony celebrating the Michael L. Faust Center for Alumni and Friends. The ceremony will mark the completion of an expansion of the facility, formerly known as the Alumni House, through the support of a $1 million gift by the Suzanne and Walter Scott Foundation of Omaha, Nebraska. The Scott Foundation’s gift honors Faust, a 1974 Northwest graduate, for his support of the Scotts’ civic and philanthropic activities, his 36 years of service to Peter Kiewit Sons’ Inc., where Walter Scott was chairman and chief executive officer, and his loyalty to the University.

Friday at Northwest is Walkout Day, a tradition dating back to 1915, in conjunction with the University’s Homecoming week. All classes are canceled and students participate in a variety of activities on the campus.

Other events include the M-Club Hall of Fame induction at 6:30 p.m. in the J.W. Jones Student Union Ballroom and the second night of the Homecoming Variety Show at 7 p.m. in the Ron Houston Center for the Performing Arts.
