Northwest Missouri State University will celebrate the alumni and friends who contribute generously to the University in support of scholarships, campus facilities and the value of a college degree during the third annual “Thank a Donor Day.”
“Thank a Donor Day” activities will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 4, in the J.W. Jones Student Union and B.D. Owens Library.
Students may sign postcards to be sent to donors and share their gratitude in a photo booth. Yard signs placed throughout the campus also will feature the ways donors have impacted Northwest and the education opportunities it provides as well as the importance of giving to the University.
The annual event is designed to educate Northwest students about the importance of private donations from alumni, family and friends, draw attention to the impact that alumni support has throughout the University and actively engage the students in the stewardship of alumni donors.
“Thank a Donor Day for Northwest students and employees is a day to give thanks and recognition to our amazing donors,” Bob Machovsky, Northwest’s director of alumni relations and annual giving, said. ”Students and Northwest employees have been coming together for several years to build on a tradition of the entire University has been coming together to show appreciation to donors who help make Northwest a better place.”
The Northwest Foundation, the fundraising arm of Northwest, secured $7.4 million in donor funding during the 2016 fiscal year, which included nearly $6.1 million in cash contributions – the highest level received by the Foundation in any given year – and exceeded the organization’s goal for the year by more than $1.4 million.
Scholarship support remains a central mission of the Foundation, which awarded a record of nearly $856,000 in scholarships to 1,210 students during FY16. That is an increase of 57 scholarship awards and nearly $115,000 more than the previous record.
Also, facility upgrades and amenities throughout campus – including new furnishings in academic areas – were fully funded through donor gifts.
