Dec. 7, 2016
Northwest Missouri State University ceramics students are again giving back to their community and doing so this time while spreading some warmth during the holiday season.
Northwest’s Clay Club will host Coffee and Cups from noon to 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 8, and noon to 6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 9, on the second floor of the J.W. Jones Student Union on the Northwest campus.
Coffee and Cups is a new fundraising event organized by Clay Club and sponsored by the Department of Fine and Preforming Art in the spirit and tradition of its annual Empty Bowls event.
Ceramics students and art majors have created handmade drinking vessels – including cups, tumblers and tea bowls – for the public to purchase exclusively at the event. Patrons may then use their purchase to fill with free coffee, tea or hot chocolate.
The Clay Club will give 50 percent of the proceeds to the Maryville Ministry Center, and the remaining 50 percent will remain with the Clay Club to cover material costs.
In conjunction with Coffee and Cups, the work of advanced art students will be available for viewing and purchase during an art show and sale from noon to 6 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 10, in Meeting Room D on the third floor of the Student Union. The featured artwork will include ceramics, photography, prints, paintings and drawings.
