Missouri Academy students claim honors at Model UN conference

Students attending the Missouri Academy of Science, Mathematics and Computing at Northwest Missouri State University participated March 11-13 in the 21st annual Model United Nations Illinois (MUNI) Conference in Champaign, Illinois, and two students returned with honors.

Kat English, of Springfield Missouri, was named Outstanding Delegate for her portrayal of Eamon de Valera during the Irish Revolution.

Karen Zhang, of Shenzhen, China, received an honorable mention for her role as Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina.

Model United Nations is an educational simulation that assigns delegates with topics to research and debate from the perspective of political figures and countries. Participants learn diplomacy and international relations while developing skills in research, public speaking, debate, writing, critical thinking, teamwork and leadership.

The Missouri Academy was among 27 schools from throughout the country to participate in Model United Nations Illinois.
