Program marks 60th anniversary of Montgomery Bus Boycott

Northwest Missouri State University celebrated the life and legacy of Civil Rights activist Rosa Parks and the 60th anniversary of her refusal to give up her bus seat, launching the Montgomery Bus Boycott with a program Dec. 1 in its J.W. Jones Student Union.

The Northwest event featured original poems by Northwest students Markeyta Young, Deven Stepney and Rodney McDuffie, who offered reflections of Parks’ action and messages of equity.

Additionally, attendees were invited to sign a banner, pledging their support for inclusivity.

Students, staff and faculty who attended the program gathered afterward for soup and conversation in the Student Union’s Student Engagement Center.
