Social Driver, a digital firm focused on social-fueled strategy and co-founded by a Northwest Missouri State University alumnus, has been named Supplier of the Year by the National Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce (NGLCC).

The firm’s co-founder and CEO, Thomas Sanchez, graduated from Northwest in 2002 and delivered the University’s commencement address last spring. He received the Northwest Alumni Association’s Young Alumni Award this fall.

The company accepted the award at the NGLCC annual dinner Nov. 20 at the National Building Museum.

“We are honored by this recognition,” Sanchez said. “At the outset of our firm five years ago, we made a strategic decision to embrace all the diversity that exists today, both as a supplier and an employer. Simultaneously, we looked to partner with clients, often larger, that already were embracing such thinking. These forces came together like magnets and have powered our growth.”

The NGLCC’s Supplier of the Year award recognizes an exemplary, certified LGBT business enterprise for its success in doing business with corporate America, and for outstanding contributions to the growth and development of LGBT supplier diversity. In addition, the business must have a proven track record of positive benefits from certification, including educational opportunities realized, hiring of new staff, expansion of the business, growth in client list, and work with NGLCC and corporate partners to further the mission of NGLCC supplier diversity.

Previously, the firm and its leaders has been honored as Minority Business Leader of the Year and “40 Under 40” by Washington Business Journal; Emerging Entrepreneur of the Year by the Capital Area Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce; D.C. Small Business Champion by the D.C. Chamber of Commerce; and Innovator of the Year by the D.C. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.
